No way Jose
I have been following football for a very long time and it almost seems like forever at times but I do not ever recall a starting line-up like the 1 I witnessed in the match between Inter Milan and Palermo yesterday evening.
Jose Mourinho has a reputation of picking sides that are very difficult to beat and being very organized with a winning mentality. That was evident at Chelsea as he won a lot of fans mainly at Chelsea but the opposition and neutrals were left cold with the displays.
I did not mind how Chelsea won their games as I felt that they were a side with character that defended as a team and attacked as a team to an extent. He brought incredible success to Chelsea and no one can deny him that but he is a nightmare in Italy.
But I have to say the Inter Milan side that was picked last night was a total insult to those that come to watch attacking football or neutrals that paid good money to sky Italia and having to endure that kind of line-up.
I have always felt Fabio Capello as a very negative manager but not even he would have picked a side that Jose Mourinho picked last night.
The starting line-up was Julio Cesar, Maicon, Maxwell, Walter Samuel, Ivan Cordoba, Esteban Cambiasso, Patrick Vieira, Javier Zanetti, Sulley Muntari, Julio Cruz and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
By the end of the game, Muntari, Vieira and Cruz came off for Dejan Stankovic, Nicolas Burdisso and Amantino Mancini respectfully.
Yes they won the game 2-0 but Spain showed in the Euros that you do not have to be this negative to win football matches and thankfully some teams have followed their suit in being positive.
It is disgusting that any manager should start with what was effectively 8 defenders and 2 strikers in a football match as his entire midfield was made up of players that could play adequately as either central defenders or full backs but none of them can play as an attacking midfielder.
Jose Mourinho, who reportedly boasted that he makes about £12m a year, is a disgrace to this sport with his very archaic way of setting out his team. Not even the much maligned Hector Cuper set out his sides with a starting line-up like that, it was extremely annoying.
I thought the most incredible line-up I had seen recently was when Capello started with Gago, Diarra and Emerson to start against Bayern Munich in the champions league, a couple of years ago but at least there was Higuain, Raul and Ruud Van Nistlerooy in the starting line-up and Capello did realize the stupidity of his ways and brought on Guti after 30 minutes.
Claudio Ranieri, Gerrard Houllier, Rafa Benitez and almost every Italian manager are by nature very cautious but I do not think any of them would ever put that kind of line-up against modest opposition like Palermo.
I would hope that every football lover around the world and that includes Inter Milan fans would wish Jose as little success as possible so he is hounded out of football as he is not bringing anything positive to the game apart from tirades that are now bordering on the childish.
As Barrack Obama showed recently with his slogan “Yes we can”, that things that might have seemed impossible can be made possible if we unite against a common foe so I urge the rest of the football mad world to make a difference by rebelling against Jose’s way of managing and get him to either change his ways or just get out by telling everyone we know that likes football to protest against his side style of play either vocally by booing him or with the aid of positive thoughts to want Inter to lose every game that they are involved in if they persist with such a negative line-up.
