Unfortunately named footballers XI

In keeping with unusual XIs and because I am so bored out of my skull, I have a compiled a list of unfortunately named footballers over the years.

Goalkeeper

Gianluigi Buffon is perhaps the greatest goalkeeper in the world and some might argue that he is up there with the best of all time but his name is unfortunate and to be fair if you have heard him wax lyrical about certain subjects, you would be very tempted to add another o to his surname.

Right back

Francesco “chiqui” Arce is a former Paraguayan international and I am sure a very good 1 but he is lucky that his name is in Spanish and did not have to live in an English speaking country as school would not have been much fun.

Left back

Rod Fanni plays for Stade Rennais and I do hope for his sake that Sam Allardyce does not bring him to England to play for Blackburn as with a surname like that it would not go down well (no pun intended).

Centre backs

Oliver De Cock is a former Belgian international and Daniel Shittu is a Nigerian international that plays for Bolton Wanderers and if you have been privileged to have seen both of them in action, then you’d appreciate how much they live up to their surnames.

Midfielders

Danny Fuchs of Kaiserslautern, Milan Fukal of Kapfenberger SV is technically a defender (but how could I have left him out?); Nicky Butt of Newcastle would have been in my team but I preferred Florian Dick of Kaiserslautern.

Strikers

David Goodwillie of Dundee United, Paul Dickov of Leicester City and Stephan Kuntz, a former Germany international would make a lovely threesome.
